The 'Criminal Minds' Cast: Where Are They Now?


It's been two years since the iconic CBS crime show Criminal Minds ended its 15-season run. Despite the multiple changes throughout 15 seasons fans still love and support the show due to the outstanding performance and excellent chemistry of the cast. 
As a result, viewers may be curious to learn more about the beloved actors after the show especially if they are playing roles unrelated to BAU. Some actors moved quickly while others remained unrelated to any production.

Mandy Patinkin Jason Gideon

Mandy Patinkin played Jason Gideon a forensic analyst who worked in the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit as Senior Supervising Special Agent. Gideon suddenly left BAU at the beginning of season three due to mental fears stemming from the murder of his girlfriend. Gideon was later killed by an old suspect in the season 10 episode of Nelsons Bird. After the third season of Criminal Minds, Patinkin moved into a new TV family as Saul Berenson on Showtimes's original series Homeland. He played Hal Wachner in the 2021 Paramount+ original The Good Fightin and his next series Career Opportunities in Murder and Mayhem is now in post-production. Patinkin is also famous for his roles in movies like Wonder and Life Itself and before you know it.

Thomas Gibson Aaron Hochschner

After Jason Gideon resigns in season three Aaron Hotch Hotchner Thomas Gibson becomes the former unit chief of the Behavioral Analysis Unit at Quantico. He has always been professional determined and focused on leading his team but he is also kind and compassionate to everyone. After being placed in witness protection because his son Jack Hotchner was harassed by Peter Lewis aka Mr. Scratch Hotch officially resigned from his position in Season 12. Gibson hasn't seen many roles since his accident. He's kept out of sight except for a few credits to movies like Axis and Shadow Wolves.

Joe Mantegna David Rossi

David Rossi Joe Mantegna is a Supervising Special Agent and Principal Agent for the Behavioral Analysis Unit. He first appeared in season 3 of the series. Rossi is decidedly extroverted aggressive and much less mentally savvy than Hotchner and Gideon although he is very disciplined and impulsive. Mantegna's television career continues after 13 seasons on the show with appearances on The Simpsons As We See It and Barry. Mantegna hasn't worked on a feature film for a long time with only one titled Rolling Thunder.

Shemar Moore Derek Morgan

Derek Morgan portrayed by Shemar Moore is a former BAU Supervising Special Agent. He was acting chief of BAU for a period and took the position after Hotch temporarily resigned. In season 11 he officially retires from college to be with his new family. After 11 seasons as Derek Morgan Moore went on to play Daniel Harrison on the CBS drama S.W.A.T. A role he still plays to this day. Moore has also played Malcolm Winters in over 400 episodes of The Young and the Restless. He has also contributed his voice to several DC Comics animated films most notably his role in Cyborg in Superman The Death and Return. He is currently featured in Sonic The Hedgehog 2.

Kirsten Vangsens as Penelope Garcia

Penelope Garcia Kirsten Fangsens is a former Technical Analyst at BAU. Garcia is openly emotional which makes her work with BAU more difficult at times. She and Derek Morgan have a platonic bond as they refer to each other as Chocolate Thunder and Baby Girl among other names. Vangsness is one of the few characters to have appeared multiple times in the spinoffs Criminal Minds Beyond Borders and Criminal Minds Suspect Behavior. Vangsness was so committed to the show that she wrote several episodes including And at the End the series finale. Since then Vangsness has not announced any new projects.

AJ Cook Jennifer JJ Jarro

Jennifer JJ Jareau A.J. Cook is a supervisory special agent who previously served as a media and police liaison officer at BAU. Jarrow is extremely loyal and protective of her family and friends especially Spencer Reed with whom she shares a sibling-like bond. Before participating in the show Cook was a well-known horror actress who appeared in films such as Wishmaster 3 and Final Destination 2. Cook remained devoted to the Criminal Minds family appearing in several films and as a guest on other shows. Cook appeared on the final episode of 9 1 1.

Paget Brewster as Emily Prentice

Emily Prentice Paggett Brewster is the current unit chief at BAU and joined the team in season two after Elle Greenaway Lola Glaudini permanently resigned from the FBI. Prentiss proved to be a very skilled and no-nonsense worker. She is less affected by the nightmares that come with work and can maintain her composure in hostile situations. Brewster has been busy with several TV projects since the end of Criminal Minds including Hollywood Netflix DuckTales Birdgirl American Dad! How I Met Your Father Family Guy and most recently Alpha Betas. She also played the role of Dr. Sampson in the horror film Hypochondriac which was released in 2022.

Matthew Gray Gubler Dr. Spencer Reed

Dr. Spencer Reed played by Matthew Gray Gubler works at BAU as a supervising special agent. Reid is a genius with an IQ of 187 and an eidetic memory that allows him to read 20000 words per minute. He is the youngest member of the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit BAU with three bachelor's degrees and three Ph.D. degrees in mathematics chemistry and engineering specializing in statistics and geographical profiling. Gubler has been quiet in the acting scene for 15 years on Criminal Minds. His most recent acting credits include the leading role in the comedy King Knight which was released in late 2021 and a cameo appearance in Hulus Dollface and Netflix's Horse Girl.

Aisha Tyler Dr. Tara Lewis

Dr. Tara Lewis Aisha Tyler is an FBI forensic psychiatrist and special agent for supervision who originally appeared as a recurring character on Season 11 of Criminal Minds. Louis is a smart funny and caring person. Tyler continued to work in television after his time on Criminal Minds with roles in Diary of a Future President Diabolical Fear the Walking Dead and most notably Archer. He was also in two feature films including Bad Cure and Friendsgiving. Criminal Minds fans will soon see her in the crime thriller Black Water Transit and in the recently announced TV series The Last Thing, He Told Me.

Adam Rodriguez Luke Alves

Luke Alvez portrayed by Adam Rodriguez is a supervisory special agent with the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit who joined the team at the start of season 12 after Derek Morgans' resignation. Before joining the Criminal Minds family Rodriguez was best known for his performance in another CBS crime drama CSI Miami. Rodriguez went on to play Raul Vega on the first and only season of Penny Dreadful City of Angels and Bobby Diaz on Ordinary Joe after playing the role of Alves. He also starred in the TV movie A Christmas Proposal which will be broadcast in 2021.

Daniel Henney Matt Simmons

Matt Simmons Daniel Heaney was previously assigned to the FBI's International Response Team IRT which appeared in the movie Criminal Minds Beyond Borders before joining BAU as a supervising special agent. Along with Jennifer Garrow Simmons is one of the two lead characters on the show who are happily married and have children. Before he was cast as Matt Simmons in Season 10 Daniel Henney wasn't as well known as his co-stars. However, Henney has some notable roles under her belt including X Men Origins Wolverine and Big Hero 6. After the show ends in 2020 Henney now plays Lan Mandragoran in the Amazon Prime series The Wheel of Time. He also appeared in the TV movie Mysterious as Agent Thompson.
