Family Guy's Brutal Black Widow Joke Had Marvel Fans Talking
Fox's popular sitcom Family Guy has been parodying American life in its own twisted way since its debut in 1999. The show follows the lives of Peter Griffin and his strange family in the fictional town of Quahog on Rhode Island. They find themselves in ridiculous and strange places. Known for his wicked sense of humor excessive violence and controversial content Family Guy has only pushed his unfamiliar feelings and level of shock with each ongoing season. Despite having varying degrees of success the show is still a hit with nearly 400 episodes and 20 seasons to date via IMDb.
One of the show's comedic brands is choppy gags. As the name suggests these jokes involve a character saying a random line and then cutting into a quick gag of some sort regarding the line before returning to the main part of the episode. Usually, it will have nothing to do with the main story being told. Sure Family Guy didn't invent the choppy gag but it has become so ingrained in the show's DNA that it has practically made its own. And while jokes can be hit or miss there are times when they can elicit some strong reactions. One example occurred when the show decided to mock one of the most beloved heroines of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The black widow is the most useless
In the episode Our Idiot Brian the show attacks a key member of the Avengers. When Stewie compared Brian to be as useless as the Black Widow we cut her off in front of the other six original Avengers. When she asks Thor about her powers and she just says a kick the others raise their hands after Thor sarcastically asks who can kick. The Hulk tries to get away from it but when told to try to be nice he raises his hand. The fans had a field day with the gag. YouTuber Matteo Verdomo's top comment read It's not useless. It can be sacrificed to an infinite stone referring to her sacrifice in Avengers Endgame. Sasori also threw in a reference to Infinity War when they wrote that Thor actually went behind her head. Others were outspoken like user K.M.B who admitted that he found the joke playful despite loving Black Widow.
Others pointed to Hooks's sarcasm at his inability to judge between the two teams. User Cryscorde Ultimasunt commented I like that no one is talking about Hawk sitting there quietly. Likewise, a little sparrow remarked Hawk sits there hoping no one will notice. However, Black Widow fans defended her. Jeros user Julian D. Infante commented that his lack of strength and intelligence can be considered an advantage as he can still fight if other people's powers are deflected. User Eduardo Gonzalez digs deeper explaining how he forged close bonds with each fellow Avengers. Family Guy slipped a cheeky gag but no amount of cutbacks can take away the admiration of fans of the beloved Marvel character.
