Even The Battlestar Galactica Writers Weren't Sure Who Would Be A Cylon
You know as much as I loved Battlestar Galactica its funny that the writers did not know where the story was going when they were writing the show. I mean its fun and it also feels totally right especially when you think about that ending but lets not stop there. In a series full of twists and turns the reveal of the highly anticipated Final Five Cylons. And not just because of the fans it turns out that the revelation came as a surprise to the writers too. You must remember that Battlestar was released in 2005. It was a simpler time when everyone was watching the same TV show at the same time. Hell this was part of the LOST era when shocking season finals and lengthy puzzles were tough. You were supposed to throw the remote on the TV and call your friend after finishing a season of TV which we all did back then.
the last four
In an interview about the magic that was Battlestar I might laugh it off but thats all love Show rules Executive Producer Ron Moore shared the process of figuring out which characters would be revealed as one. of androids and it seems they got together on the go I mean the last four literally came at some point in the writers room where we were struggling with the end of season three. And trying to figure out certain things. . . . I said I wish there was a bigger reveal here. I just said You know I just got this picture of four people walking from different areas of the ship and everyone ends up in a room together everyone closes the doors and looks at each other. And they are like OK were Kylon. Then we reveal four of them you know in One shot.
And what a blow it was. When Galen Tyrol Aaron Douglas Samuel Anders Michael Trucco Tori Foster Rika Sharma and Saul Teig Michael Hogan walk into that room and discover they are not human it was a turning point for the series.
big reveal
Sure Battlestar Galactica has had its fair share of shaky plot points and I actually think using All Along the Watchtower to tease these four was a bit boring but it was still a totally funny and surprising reveal. And the rest of the writers room apparently agreed Everyone was so confused at the time. And then the more we talked about it the better it got come on well why not? Is that? Then we just talk about Who will it be who will be these final four with the idea of keeping the other one for last season.
And the last of Cylon was of course Elaine Teague who was thought to be Sauls dead wife which was again another funny twist. While Moore made it sound like the writer was going back and forth about who would be the last Kylon but at the end of the day I think they made the right decision We had a good idea last season who was the last Kylon. But we were ready you know to look at the other nominees and see who they could be and which makes the most sense in the legends. In the end we stuck with the original pick because it made the most sense in terms of the shows story and what it meant for the characters. The way the show was played might come as a surprise to both the writing team and viewers but this Good. At the end of the day its not about getting to the end its about the friends we met along the way. Find out those friends are from Android. You know the normal stuff.
