After the end of the fourth season of A Million Little Things, many viewers are wondering wonder if Gary Mendez and James Roday Rodriguez will be leaving the show. In the final minutes of the ABC final fans along with Roma Romani Malko and Regina, Christina Moses learns about the return of Gary's cancer. This news sparked multiple discussions among fans that the show could complete a circuit and end with Gary's death beginning with the death of John Dixon Ron Livingston.

ABC has not indicated that Gary is leaving A Million Little Things. However, fans are concerned that the character may die as he now has lung cancer. Since he's a significant character on the show and a fan favorite he likely won't be leaving the show until it's over.

One fan wrote on Reddit I find it hard to believe they would kill him unless they were part of the series finale. James is the main reason I started watching AMLT and I don't know if I could go on without him even if they had constant flashbacks like they did with Ron [Livingston] John Dixon. Many fans believe that Gary will not die of cancer unless he is in the series finale. They don't think the show would go on without him.

Another Redditor added I feel like Gary was the main character and that the message of this show was to give him whole meaningful years of life before it was taken away from him. It started with death 100% it would end in one. And it would be Gary. Other viewers think that ending the series with Gary's death makes sense since the show began with the death of John Dixon. I can definitely see a circular ending with a friend's funeral at the beginning of the show and a friend's funeral at the end of the show one fan wrote.

Is Season 5 of A Million Little Things the Final Season?

The fifth season of A Million Little Things is rumored to be the final season of the series. He won't be back until midseason which means a premiere date in early 2023. Series creator DJ Nash doesn't yet know if season five will be the final but it might. We know that while we set a record for the network for time-lapse viewing this season our live ratings arent very high Nash told Deadline. It's tough when it's a drama after a night of comedy. We went to the network earlier this season and offered to finish the story and they didn't want us to do that. Nash plans to have further conversations with ABC Entertainment president Craig Irwich to decide when the best time to end the series is. Season 5 of A Million Little Things returns to continue Gary's battle with cancer in early 2023.
